Getting (and Staying) Organized & Motivated
Going to college requires getting your act together. This
includes keeping track of materials,
assignments, tests, and projects as well as knowing why you enrolled and
what your long-term goals are. It involves juggling your courses, family
responsibilities, and job (if you have one, and most college students do
these days) while still leaving time to recharge your batteries. Being
successful at all this takes planning.
As organization gives structure, like the body's bone and muscle, motivation is
like the soul, the source of all action. Your motivation is both energy and direction. Without
it, not much happens. But not all motives are equal.
Motivation that matters
is the kind that comes from being aware of your purpose on the earth. A
student sitting in a classroom with no goal in mind except to get
through the course is almost sure to learn very little, to be changed
very little.
The links listed below can start you thinking about
what really motivated you to go to college and to take the classes you have
selected. Thoughtful reflection on what you want out of college and why
you want it can make getting organized easier and more meaningful.
