INSYS 525 - Instructional Design Models, Strategies, and Tactics |
|
The purpose of this course
is to help students make decisions about appropriate
instructional design models, strategies, and tactics
given the objectives of the instruction. Students in
this course worked in teams to produce modules based on
non-constructivist design models. When I taught this
course, I employed technology, discussion-based methods,
case-based learning and project-based learning.

This course serves as an introduction to the field for graduate students in the Instructional Systems Program. The course is also an elective for undergraduate and graduate students outside of the program. When I taught this course, I used technology, discussion-based methods, case-based learning, and project-based learning. Students completed course assignments both individually and in groups. INSYS 597A - Designing and Assessing in Higher Education |
|
I developed this course to provide a means for students in Instructional Systems to learn how to consult with faculty and departments in higher education. Course Description: Working as an instructional designer in a higher education setting can be different from working as a design in a corporate setting. This course is designed to give you practical advice concerning the application of the instructional design process in higher education. Through readings and class discussions, you will learn about the nuances associated with higher education and how they can impact the design and assessment process. During the course, you will be given the opportunity to not only to plan a course, but also to engage in the role of a consultant to one of your peers. Course Ratings: Quality of Course: 6.29, Quality of Instruction: 6.29 |

| Academies Developed |
| Integrating Scholarship, Performance, and Research Experiences (InSPIRE) Academy
I designed and developed this program at Penn State. The academy consisted of a series of four workshops and working sessions designed to help faculty capitalize on their research strengths and help them integrate inquiry methods into their teaching. The primary goal of the program was to improve student learning and student motivation to learn by infusing the creation of knowledge, creative expression, and discovery into the undergraduate experience. During the Spring 2004, Fall 2004, Spring 2005, Fall 2005, and Fall 2006 semesters I facilitated the first two sessions: Designing for Inquiry and Creativity An Introduction and Problem Development and Instructional Planning. |
