CLEP

The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) allows students to earn credit for college courses by passing national exams.

The total testing fee is $90 for each exam, $100 total for an exam plus essay.   These amounts include a $20 non-refundable registration fee payable to Clayton State University.

For detailed information about the CLEP Program, visit the College Board website at: http://www.collegeboard.org/clep/.  Follow the CLEP program suggestions for study materials, or check out www.InstantCert.com for additional study materials.

Clayton State University's Testing Center is an open CLEP test center, testing students for any school.  We welcome military personnel.  We offer all CLEP tests twice every month except for December.

Be certain to talk with your registrar or advisor prior to CLEP registration so that you will sign up for appropriate tests.

CLEP credit is not awarded to Clayton State University students who have previously earned credit or for those who have already completed a higher course in sequence.  For example, a student with credit for MATH 1113 could not earn CLEP credit for MATH 1101.  For more complete information, see the catalog under Academic Policies:  http://publications.clayton.edu/catalog/

To register for testing, pay Clayton State University the nonrefundable registration fee of $20 at the time of registration:

1.  By credit card:    http://adminsystems.clayton.edu/Assessment/Application/View/Begin/aspx

2.  By cash or money order:  Print and complete this registration form and mail or bring it to Clayton State University's Testing Center.  The mailing address is:  Testing Center, Clayton State University, 2000 Clayton State Blvd., Morrow, GA 30260.

Students who wish to change their appointments must register and pay the $20 registration fee again.  Due to many cancellations and no-shows, we will no longer roll registrations from one session to the next.

Bring a government-issued ID card, such as a driver's license or passport, with picture and signature for test admittance, plus one other ID with picture &/or signature.  Students will be asked to sign in and out.

At test time, the preferred method to pay CLEP the $70 test fee is by credit or debit card (VISA,  MASTERCARD, DISCOVER, or AMERICAN EXPRESS) as part of the computer registration process.  Corporate credit cards are now accepted.  You may also bring a check or money order payable to "CLEP."  Cash is NOT accepted by CLEP.

For a list of Clayton State University CLEP tests accepted and score requirements, go to:

.

To receive Clayton State University credit for CLEP tests requiring essays (ENGL 1101 & 1102), you must pass both the multiple choice and the essay tests.  There is an additional charge of $10, payable to Clayton State University, for the essay test.  Essays are evaluated by 3 Language and Literature faculty members.  Students will not be allowed to review their written essays.

Clayton State University permits a one-time opportunity for retaking the essay portion (after passing the objective portion) after a minimum of a six-month waiting period for a fee of $30.

To best prepare for CLEP essays, see the Department of Language & Literature Writing Guidelines at http://a-s.clayton.edu/langlit/guidelines/default.html.

Computerized CLEP

CLEP tests are computerized with passing scores for most subjects set at 50.  Check with your school or department advisor to verify which CLEP tests count as equivalent for courses and the score requirement.

The second year of foreign language tests (6 semester hours) will be awarded with a score of 59 for French, 63 for German, and 63 for Spanish at most schools.
